The Woodland Sessions
On Saturday 11 July, one of the glades at Voltaire’s Wood became a gathering place for music, dancing and a long summer evening beneath the trees.
The first Woodland Sessions brought people into the woods to slow down, meet friends and enjoy music in a setting that felt a world away from an ordinary night out. Blankets were spread across the glade, drinks were poured and the woodland gradually filled with the sounds of Dubbu on the decks.
His laid-back dub selections provided the perfect soundtrack as the light softened through the canopy, creating an easy, unhurried atmosphere that suited the woods beautifully.
There was also a surprise appearance from Voltaire’s Wood gardener Skip, better known for the evening as DJ Greenfingers. Swapping gardening tools for the decks, he added some irresistible dance energy to the session and soon had the glade moving.
It was wonderful to see the woodland enjoyed in a different way: not only as a place for wildlife, forestry and quiet walks, but as somewhere people could gather, listen, dance and spend time together.
Voltaire’s Wood is a working woodland, carefully managed to create healthy habitats, open glades and space for people to reconnect with the natural world. The Woodland Sessions grew from that same idea: a simple evening shaped by good music, good company and the atmosphere of the woods themselves.
Thank you to Dubbu, DJ Greenfingers and everyone who joined us for the first session. We loved seeing the glade come alive and hope this will be the beginning of many more evenings in the woods.
