As the leaves turn
Discover wild camping at Oak, Ash & Thorn in the heart of Voltaire’s Wood, Gloucestershire. As summer begins to turn towards autumn, the ancient woodland comes alive with bronzing bracken, ripening blackberries, falling leaves and changing colours. It is a beautiful time for a simple, nature-filled camping escape in the Cotswolds, sleeping beneath the trees and watching the seasons change.
The Woodland Sessions
The first Woodland Sessions brought people into the woods to slow down, meet friends and enjoy music in a setting that felt a world away from an ordinary night out. Blankets were spread across the glade, drinks were poured and the woodland gradually filled with the sounds of Dubbu on the decks.
His laid-back dub selections provided the perfect soundtrack as the light softened through the canopy, creating an easy, unhurried atmosphere that suited the woods beautifully.
A Gold Winning Garden
When Rachael Austin began designing the Ruskin Mill Trust Artisan Woodland Craft Garden for the inaugural RHS Badminton Flower Show, every material had to tell a story. Inspired by the wooded valleys surrounding Ruskin Mill in Nailsworth, the garden celebrated traditional woodland crafts, sustainable land management and the quiet beauty of the British landscape.
We were incredibly proud that Voltaire’s Wood could play a small part in bringing that vision to life.
From our woodlands we supplied the tall ash poles that held up the striking canopy, a handcrafted structure that echoed the simple, honest forms found in woodland shelters and traditional green woodworking. Ash has long been valued for its strength, flexibility and beauty, making it the perfect choice for a structure that was both functional and deeply rooted in British woodland heritage.
